| GUNshot_2 investigates the terminology and technology of shooting and the impact of being shot. The victim is reshot: I aim, frame and capture extreme close-ups of his scars, ruptures and holes. He jumps at the sound of the CLICK. The closeness of my apparatus and the odd intimacy of the situation cause an invisible tension, amplified by the trigger. |
GUNshot_2 is an extension of the first GUNshot project (i.e.), shown as a solo exhibition at Scott Pfaffman Gallery in New York in September 2001. While the first series of GUNshots took as a starting point the idea “to shoot a gun with a camera: aim, focus and pull the trigger ” and was about simultaneous gun-aversion and -fascination, the new photographic series GUNshot_2 includes the human experience of being shot, wounded and healed.
I made contact with people who have been shot, visited the victims, listen to their stories, and shot extreme close-ups of their scars.
I am interested in the different experiences of these marks, and how the body and the mind absorb, heal and speak about what happened. The tactile feel of holding a gun, handling my heavy duty camera and working with the shot victims gave me a hands-on experience with life and death issues transgressing any semantic discourse. modified 06: 16: 04
