Seine Mutter ist eine Hündin, sein Vater ein Hirsch. Das Wild und die Jagdhunde mißtrauen ihm gleichermaßen, nur für die Jäger ist es ein heiliges Tier. Seine Mutter ist ein Fleischfresser, aber sein Vater verzehrt Gräser und Pflanzen. So zeugen sie es als ein Wesen von zweierlei Art; er kann nicht Fleisch fressen wegen der Art seines Vaters, und nicht Gräser wegen der Art seiner Mutter. So geht er nun zugrunde darum, daß er keine Nahrung hat.

His mother is a wild dog, his father is a stag. The running deer and the hunting dogs mistrust him both the same. Only for the hunters is this a blessed beast. His mother eats the flesh of her kills but his father eats only grass and plants. He is living evidence, a being of two opposed arts; he cannot eat plants because of his mother's kind and it cannot eat meat because of his father's kind. This is why he dies, he has no nourishment.
