L I N A IS LOOKING FOR OFFICE SUPPLY DONATIONS
Some of us have new jobs, without the ability to borrow the fax, supplies, etc. We are setting up a new fax. We are looking for DONATIONS of plain white paper (for letters), packs of business envelopes & stamps, pens, various tapes. Any amount of office supplies are appreciated. Call our # or send e-mails to Suzanne Williamson or L I N A at our web site.

WHOLE FOODS on Prince St. in Soho is closing, to the dismay of many.

NEW BUILDING going up on Elizabeth St., betw. Houston & Prince
The owner of the property on Elizabeth St. where Wild Edibles & another low building are, will be taking them down & putting up a larger building at some point soon. People concerned about this should contact L I N A to see if we can meet with the owner to find out the parameters of the project. All community groups in other areas do this.

EIGHT MILE CREEK RESTAURANT at Mulberry St.
The owners have signed a good neighbor agreement with L I N A on behalf of the community. They have pledged not to cause noise or smell disturbances to neighbors, not transfer their license to a bar or club, only to a white tablecloth restaurant where the main purpose is dining.

NEW RESTAURANT, called PEASANT at 194 Elizabeth St., betw. Prince & Spring
The normal liquor license review process may have been subverted. We believe the community did not receive proper notification BEFORE THE LICENSE WAS ISSUED. Also, the upstairs commercial tenant has exhaust fan problems with the new restaurant's wood-fired pizza ovens. L I N A is researching what happened & will report on it.

OLD PATRISSY'S RESTAURANT in the southern part of Little Italy on 98 Kenmare St. has a new owner who named the place NoLita — not having a clue that this name supposedly means North of Little Italy.

TREES
Our tree people are looking for money sources to pay for tree guards for our new neighborhood trees. E-mail us with ideas.

DEFIBULATOR PROJECT
L I N A is participating with CB2 to get additional defibulators to start hearts in Little Italy-no nearby hospitals. We are also surveying the existing defibulators to tell the community. Our project person is looking for interested volunteers for 24 hr. location; training; contacting of other neighborhood groups. Word is the Police may start carrying them, too. E-mail us if you are interested.

MOTT ST. RAID & AFTERMATH
This month, City agencies conducted a multi-agency action on Mott St. near Grand, at businesses & buildings for health & zoning violations of the Little Italy Special District. Meetings of the CB2 Canal St. Committee, & the Fifth Precinct Community Council took up this issue. Letters were written to the Villager newspaper by certain powers from Mulberry St. inaccurately attacking CB2 & some L I N A resident members for political reasons.

L I N A's developing position is that the city did not involve the community in their decisions & conducted the raid in a frightening manner--perhaps to politically benefit a friend of the Mayor's who is running for Council member. L I N A members have also told the Mott St. businesses that they must "clean-up their act", which they acknowledge. L I N A believes the street should stay part of the Little Italy Special District, and work out removing the existing problems.

L I N A also notes that the Mulberry Mall is allowed to create congestion & noise, and is not cited for it's violations. L I N A members also wrote letters to the Villager calling for the neighborhood to work together and not allow itself to be divided by people running for office. Stay tuned.

166-170 MULBERRY ST. RESIDENTIAL BUILDING BACKYARD WHICH CITY WANTS TO LEASE TO DA NICO RESTAURANT
The City Planning Agency sided with City Hall, and voted that the city had the right to lease the backyard. It is still hoped that the residents will be able to gain their building, but the power of City Hall is clearly behind Da Nico restaurant.
