About ten years ago, I wrote about "apartment postmodernism," living in
the midst of images in a physically small environment - examining its
inputs/outputs (telephone, cb, am/fm/shortwave, tv, computer, VCR,
walkman, etc.), and their intersections. All of these are, of course,
protocol-dependent; in some cases multiplexing or multiple protocols are
possible (conference calls, web/tv). Theories of postmodernism tend to
reflect the environments that produced them as well.
