Yahoo did an 'great' example on this, takes you 10 minutes to load and leads
you back to 'plain text Yahoo'...
some years ago I was also excited about the idea to use 3d structures to
navigate comlex systems. All this ideas seem to be excerpts of
SNOWCRASH, NEWROMANCER & co . It's interesting that nearly every proposal or
discussion on this topic hopes to find solutions in right-angled 3d spaces
with avatars and visualized data objects. For shure all this will happen, lot
of people work on high bandwith technologies, high speed graphic engines, high
bandwith consuming software and so on. That's part of the game and a big
market too. And it's ok (although I still prefer the ASCII spaces ;-).
One should think about the axis of these 'virtual spaces' and it's units and
get rid of the cartesian model, or better, include simulated meat spaces as
one possible *display* of a more complex model.

I liked these descriptions of home space posted to this list few days ago.
I had an impression of the multiple physical layers, relations, moodes,
gateways to OtherSpaces ...
2 plaintext emails were enough to make this happen. Pardon me, but at
this point it's obvious to me that we still have to think about the
conditions and laws of these code & header based systems.

A MUD-head told me about a poor boy somewhere in IRC, everytime he wants to
join a channel a cloud-bot 'appears' and rains on him, system says: you are
wet. Would you let him in your virtual living room?
