Or, speaking (writing) in a certain way may produce a virtual world (a
story, for example). I think of "virtaul" as a modality invented first in
literature but now, in the context of electronic technologies, requiring
linguistic conceptualization. The modalities or moods of language that
have sufficed until now include the declarative, interrogative,
conditional, subjunctive, imperative. The mood of a statement indicates
the attitude of the speaker toward what is claimed. What is the virtual
mood?
