I was interested in the comparison of discrete adjustments and object
oriented software (Brandon). I think there must be a breakdown, if one is
trying to
find an optimal way of relating things to other things. That is
impossible. I suppose the value would be in the application of a
relational habit of mind to the adjustment of sites seen in
mutiples--sites which one has no ambition to control or characterize in
any kind of optimal way. Rather one is perhaps finding a way to position
it in a way which recognizes it responsiveness to change and relationship
over time without being able to predict what those relationships will be.
I think most artists know when they have made an adjustment to space which
has a particular life, but which is open to changing conditions.
