One thing that is critical here (unless one opts for totality) is to
examine the particulars of various spaces - something as simple as the
first-person conversation on ytalk creates a different sort of virtual
subjectivity than the third-person conversation on a talker; there is also
the issue of dividing the screen (ytalk) vs. the rolling interspersals of
IRC. Finally, there are issues of projection and introjection, and these
interact with personhood, avatar, and so forth: what is _read_ into the
other through MOOs, say, or IRC? All of these are different; I use the
term "hysteric embodiment" to refer to the locus of text as a symptom, and
the doubled deconstructive reading used to "read between the lines," read
past the obvious (self)(1st/3rd person) description of the other.
