Manche sagen, es entsteht aus einem herabgefallenen Meteor, andere wieder, es sei aus einem dotterlosen Hahnenei ohne Mutter gezeugt. Sein Horn schützt vor bösen Geistern und Dämonen. Sein Fleisch ist jedoch wenig wohlschmeckend und taugt nicht als Speise. Es flieht vor dem Bart einer Frau, vor dem Atem des Fisches und vor dem Geräusch des Katzentrittes. Den Magiern hat es geholfen, den Kalender zu ordnen, und ist danach spurlos verschwunden.

Some say it sprang from a fallen meteor, whereas others think it hatched from a yolkless rooster egg without a mother hen. Its horn guards against evil ghosts and demons. Its meat, however, is not very palatable and is not suited for food. It flees from the beard of a woman, from the breath of the fish and from the footfall of the cat. It helped the magicians to bring the calendar into order and then vanished without a trace.
