Most of the buildings depicted on the block between Mott and Elizabeth have since been demolished. The southern half of the block is now the site of the LIRA public housing project.

The fire station formerly on Elizabeth -- Hook & Ladder No. 9 -- is now part of a large bakery.

The Germania bank, on the corner of Spring and the Bowery, has long since closed; the building is covered with graffiti.

Nearby, on the northeast corner of Spring and Elizabeth, stands a fabulous five-story structure that looks as if it were built to withstand an invasion. The X drawn through it on the map indicates that it functioned as a horse stable. The Little Italy zoning district deems it and the former fire station to be "Buildings of Special Significance."
