SOUND-SIGNS MEMORY (performance 1978)
(la memoria del segno sonoro)
Duration: 15 to 18 minutes.
by Betty Danon

The first action is writing on staves -
However there remains absolutely no trace of this writing.
The signs are not to be seen, but only to be heard:
they are the sound of an "absence."

The second action is wiping-off
these "unseen" signs with blue-ink brush strokes:
unexpectedly the missing signs emerge on the page.

Performed for the first time in January '78 at the Duemila Gallery of Bologna.
Next, in September '78, at the "Materializzazione del Linguaggio" show in the Venice Biennial.
